Drawing Journeys: Drawings by Glyn Brewerton & John Burns at The Lanchester Gallery, Coventry University.

Between October 2nd and October 17th The Lanchester Gallery at Coventry University hosts drawings by Glyn Brewerton and John Burns. The drawings in this exhibition reflect observations of life, through drawing both aim to examine the act of remembering fleeting moments, tracing history and the documentation of arduous journeys and passages through time. Both Glyn Brewerton and John Burns demonstrate their individual approaches to reportage drawing, using malleable materials that can be altered and distressed to convey both the history of a drawing and an unfolding presence. Both are fascinated by additive and reductive approaches to drawing through adding and taking away of materials, seen as metaphors for absence and dissolving memories and modes of gesture and expression that photography cannot reproduce.

Both artists actively exhibit work nationally and internationally in exhibitions which have included the Jerwood Drawing Prize 2007 and The Association of Illustrators Best of British Illustration Awards, and are artists and illustrators with experience as professional practitioners with a long pedigree of commercial and non-commercial clients. They represent the staff from Coventry University within Design and Visual Arts that work broadly across - Illustration and Fine Art & Illustration at undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. Both are aligned with the Creative Practice Research group.

Curated by Glyn Brewerton and funded by the Coventry University Creative practice Group.
